Vehicles in German Town Discovered Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Police
Authorities reported they were notified by a man who discovered a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Police report they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.

The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say preliminary tests show the substance was probably human bodily fluid.

"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.

City officials announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.

A senior representative stated the incident left him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.

"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
